The Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) was set up by the Medicines and Allied Substances Act (No. 3) of 2013 as a statutory body responsible for medicine and allied substances regulation in Zambia.
The Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority invites applications from suitably qualified Zambian citizens to fill the following vacant position at the Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority:
DIRECTOR-LABORATORY SERVICES – (1)
Purpose of the job
The Director Laboratory Services shall report directly to the Director-General and shall be responsible for the daily management of the National Drug Quality Control Laboratory.
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate should have the desire to grow professionally with a stable organisation and have the following qualities:
  • Full Grade 12 Certificate;
  • Bachelor of Pharmacy, Chemistry, Microbiology or equivalent;
  • Ten (10) years’ experience in medicines control laboratory or related environment– with at least five (5) years at supervisory/ management level
  • Experience in method validation and troubleshooting for various analytical techniques such as HPLC, GC, IR and UV/VIS
  • Knowledge of WHO prequalification procedures;
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems such as ISO 17025 and ISO 9001;
  • Knowledge of GLP/GMP guidelines; and
  • Strong computer skills
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(1) Manages effectively,
  • the carrying out of various tests on all medicines and allied substances in order to verify their quality, safety and efficacy
  • the implementation of the quality management system in the laboratory in order to maintain required standards of service delivery the development and validation of test methods on medicines and allied substances in order to be in line with international best practices
  • the maintenance of the laboratory information management system in order to facilitate storage, processing and retrieval of information
  • the inventory of equipment and consumables in order to ensure their availability and their serviceability
  • the implementation of capacity building programmes in order to impart requisite skills and competence
  • the implementation of performance management systems in order to facilitate improvement in performance and productivity
(2) Supervises timely the preparation and implementation of the departmental budget in order to facilitate resource mobilisation
(3) Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Director General
