Zambia Railways Limited (ZRL) is a national Railway Of Zambia. The Company specialises in transporting heavy cargo in the Southern African Development Community (SADC), as well as running a local passenger train service. The area of product specialization is Freight Bulk cargo and passenger rail services to the satisfaction of all Stakeholders.
The Company therefore seeks the services of a committed, vibrant, innovative, and strategically focused and business oriented Zambian national to fill the vacant position of LEGAL COUNSEL.
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To efficiently and effectively provide legal guidance. advise and legal representation Of the company in all legal issues including representing the company in litigation by and against the Company in the Courts of Law, Judicial and quasi-judicial bodies.
GRADE AND REPORTING LINE
This is a Senior Management position in Salary Grade RM 3 in the structure of the Company reporting to the Company Secretary.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Practical drafting, analysis and synthesis of legal docurnents to ensure that the Company operates within a proper legal framework and is safeguarded against risks.
  • Settlement of cases in the Courts ot Law and against Zambia Railways Limited.
  • Supervision of External handling cases tor and on behalf of Zambia Railways Limited.
  • Safeguards the Company against potential Litigants and ensure all potential litigation exposure is averted.
  • Ensure Management and employees of Zambia Railways Limited comply with relevant and applicable laws such as labour laws, safety and environrnent laws.
  • Provision of expert Legal advice to the Company on an legal matters
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Holder of a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) obtained from a reputable Law school
  • Holder of a current Law Association of Zambia Practicing Certificate
  • At least 5 years working experience as an Advocate
  • Advocate of the High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court of Zambia
  • Experience in handling mediation or Arbitration proceedings
  • Knowledgeable/Experience in Legal and Contract Drafting
  • Experience in regulatory procedures
  • Sound judgement and ability to analyse situation and information
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of corporate law and procedures
